New England Spring

This is normal behavior for New Englanders once the temperatures hit 40

Here in New England, the sailing season begins as soon as we can punch our daggerboards through the ice.  Six intrepid souls took to the water at Barrington Yacht Club's spring frostbite series under light winds, cloudy skies and a ripping current.  Racing was close, with only three points separating the top three boats.

Hypothermia be damned! This is perfectly normal spring behavior for New Englanders
There are lots more photos of average, normal New Englanders Here in the MYC Pressroom

Spring is here! (Really?)

An intrepid Sunfish Sailor stands at the ready for the BYC Frostbite series
Spring is scheduled to arrive next Sunday, when the Barrington Yacht Club Spring Frostbite Series begins.  It will run every Sunday from March 3 until April 26.  MYCSunfish will be there as soon as I can get my boat dug out from the Pleistocene ice pack that surrounds it.

Looking for a few good Sailors

Just in time for the start of the new Sunfish racing series, the Massapoag Yacht Club has announced that it is looking for new members.  The club is home to the MYCSunfish fleet, as well as vibrant Flying Scot, Laser and Day Sailer fleets.  We run races 4 days a week, plus we offer "How to Sail", "How to Sail Better" and Racing courses during the year.  It's really a great club.  Give us a try!

Winter Projects 1

LaserPerformance Open House Boat Repair Seminar from Mark Stoughton on Vimeo.

A couple of years ago, the people at LaserPerformance opened up their factory for tours and a seminar entitled "Care and Feeding of your LaserPerformance Boat".  It was a walkthrough of a complete repair to a hole in a Laser hull, right from making the hole to final polishing.
To keep the sailing juices flowing for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we present the video here. Stay tuned, because there are outtakes and additional footage that didn't make it into the final cut. We'll be posting them here over the next couple of weeks.

Full Steam Ahead for Saturday Sunfish Series!

The Sunfish Fleet at MYC has been given the go ahead for the proposed Saturday Sunfish Series at MYC for next summer.  The racing is to be a small boat series, with both Sunfish and Lasers, with separate starts for each fleet.  Right now, the racing is planned to start at 3:00pm on Saturdays, with at least 6 races scheduled each week.

Several members have already committed to the new series, and a few even offered to loan their extra boats (or their own boats when they aren't racing) to others to make it easier for people to participate.  Our own Kevin Buruchian, one of the best Sunfish sailors in the world, has generously offered to conduct on and off the water racing seminars over the summer.   Mark Stoughton was appointed Sunfish Fleet Captain to coordinate the effort.

The 2013 racing schedule will be completed on February 21, 2013, and will be posted on this blog and on the club's web site http://SailMYC.org.
